OUR PEOPLE

Tim Culverhouse - Managing Director
Tim joined what is now Alexander Forbes Trustee Services in 1982 after 8 years with Phoenix Assurance. He became Managing Director in 1991 and over the ensuing years has built up the business and gained great experience in acting as an independent professional trustee.

His interpersonal skills have led to him being in great demand to provide the chairmanship role on trustee boards and to act as arbitrator between trustees and the sponsoring employer. Amongst his many roles Tim is lead trustee for the £1bn Turner and Newall (T&N) Retirement Benefit Scheme where he chairs the Investment Sub Committee and sits on the Administration, Ill Health and Audit Committees.

Tim has also been very active in cultivating relationships with The Pensions Regulator, the Pensions Ombudsman, the Financial Assistance Scheme and the Pensions Protection Fund where his operational knowledge has provided welcome guidance to these institutions. As a result of these extensive activities Tim has become adept at managing the media especially when there are delicate or controversial issues involved.

Andy Bakewell - Director
Andy joined Alexander Forbes Trustee Services in 1989 as a trainee administrator and was appointed a Director in 2001. Andy has a wide ranging role involving attending Trustees meetings, marketing to professional bodies, dealing with new business, and liaising with 3rd party providers such as administrators, actuaries, accountants, legal advisers and insurance companies. In addition Andy has regular meetings with the Pensions Regulator to discuss matters of common interest.

Over the past four years Andy has mainly been involved with trustee boards where the sponsoring employers are involved in, or contemplating, corporate transactions. This has involved complex negotiations with employers, the commissioning of independent business reviews and in depth consultations with the Pensions Regulator and the Pension Protection Fund.

As a further consequence of such strategic change Andy has been involved in many exercises to address the whole issue of the investment strategy, especially where the schemes have been closed to new entrants. Andy also has much experience in cases involved in litigation and in particular was instrumental in bringing the case of TSL v Dubery to the Court of Appeal (CoA).

Nick Boyes BSc (Econ) ACII DipPMI - Director
Following a stint as a teacher in the early 1980s, Nick moved into the financial services industry in 1985 and quickly developed an affinity for pensions. The experience gained in supervisory and technical roles with insurance companies proved to be a sound preparation for his various roles within Alexander Forbes Trustee Services (formerly Bradstock Trustee Services Ltd), where he has been for over 19 years.

As a director, Nick has responsibility for the continuing compliance of the pension schemes for which we are trustee; establishing systems and procedures to ensure that these schemes are governed effectively and efficiently. He also represents us on numerous trustee boards, where the schemes are live and ongoing, closed to new entrants, and where schemes are being wound up, restructured or merged.

Often quoted and a frequent contributor to the pensions press, Nick has worked with The Pensions Regulator in connection with the highly praised online training facility, the Trustee Toolkit (www.TrusteeToolKit.com), and been involved in industry initiatives to raise the standard of pension scheme governance.

Nick has a particular interest in the investment strategy and internal controls, and can bring this experience to bear in order to ensure that pension schemes meet their objectives and satisfy the highest standards of pension governance.
